The Continuing Evolution of Cars

When the motor car first became available to the public the process of building cars was time consuming and they were a far cry from the cars we know today.  It was assumed that only the rich would be able to own a motor car, and the rest of the population would have to stick with more traditional forms of transport.  This all changed when the production line was introduced to the automotive industry, increasing productivity eight fold and reduced the amount of workers needed in production.  This technology led to cars becoming more affordable for ordinary families.  Further advances, mass production and the immergence of more and more rival manufacturers helped to secure the place of the car in everyday life.
These days, the number of cars across the globe is said to have a negative impact on our environment. Due to this the car manufacturers are put under increasing pressure to change the engine designs which they have been concentrating on for decades.  An increasing amount of hybrid and electric cars are available.  Car companies are having to try and find greener ways of powering the automobile, and still meet the expectations of the public.  A lot of people would only really consider purchasing a more environmentally friendly vehicle if it is as convenient as using gasoline or diesel, and if it can perform as well as traditional fuelled engines can.

There is no real doubt that cars are going to change over the next few decades – they have evolved constantly since they were introduced!  Brakes, suspension and steering have all been improved drastically, and cars are now comfortable, easy to use and can come with seemingly endless extras, from air conditioning and electric windows to on board satellite navigation.  No matter how cars develop over the coming years, the public will expect further improvements in the car’s safety systems, from brakes to traction control.  Customers also expect more advanced safety features to be included in basic cars these days, and understandably so.

You may or may not be interested in environmental issues, but using less gas is important to an individual’s financial situation, especially in the current economic climate.  It can make a big difference both to your health and fitness, and to your gas bills in you walk rather than use your car on short journeys.  It can also save a lot of wear and tear on your car in general;
brakes, tires and other essential parts may need replacing less often.  If you do decide to use your vehicle less often, for environmental, financial or any other reason, make sure you still keep it properly maintained and that all the parts are safe and legal, especially the brakes.  All good drivers enjoy being responsible road users, and are considerate towards the environment, other road users, their car and of course themselves and their passengers.

As the roads get increasingly busy, and cars continue to change and hopefully improve, all drivers will have to be adaptable and responsible in order to get the best out of their journeys.
