Rotor Upgrades for ATVs |
ATVs (all terrain vehicles) have become more and more popular since they first hit the consumer market. You see them all over the place, particularly in open and rural areas and on specially built trails. Some people like to ride them for fun while others are serious competitors entering ATV racing and skills events. Whether you ride for fun or for glory, it is important that you maintain your ATV and upgrade it when needed. You want to get the best and safest ride from your vehicle. One area that many riders are upgrading is their ATV rotors and brake system. They find an upgrade improves the performance of their vehicle and adds to their ride enjoyment. Owners will decide they need to upgrade their ATV rotors when they feel that they just aren’t getting all the necessary braking power during their rides. They may be feeling some loss of control and that the vehicle is not performing as well as it should. Brakes are extremely important, especially when riding with others or in challenging geographic areas. You don’t want to ride with worn or impaired brakes. And if you have an older model ATV, you might be missing out on advances in the technology. While some ATVs just need a little regular maintenance, care and tweaking, others will need to replace their ATV rotors or braking system. One option is to install high carbon content stainless steel rotors which improve the ATV’s performance at high running temperatures and also helps with rider control. Another option is to replace the entire brake system. Owners could select to use the exact brake system currently on their ATV, but if you are going through all the time and expense already, you may want to consider upgrading to one of the new disc braking systems. Many owners are tired of their old drum brake system and all the problems that go with it. Instead, they are electing to install disc braking systems with updated ATV rotors. These new systems run better and usually require fewer service visits. Complete disc brake systems are available and they usually include the ATV rotors, pads, calipers, mounting brackets and all the hardware necessary to convert your old brake system. There is even an option of using vented or solid disc ATV rotors. As with any technical and mechanical job, be sure you have the knowledge and skills before starting work. You will want the new ATV rotors and brake system to improve your vehicle so you can have it running at its best. However if you feel the job is over your head and is too complex, find a mechanic with the expertise to work on these kinds of upgrades. A reputable and talented mechanic will be able to install the new system and have your vehicle running at is optimal level. ATVs can be a lot of fun, and when they are running at their peak they allow their owners to try new challenges and take more rides. |
