The firm now has a carbon ceramic-to-iron rotor kit available
Cars fitted with carbon ceramic rotors as standard require very expensive replacement parts, which many people do not wish to entertain.
The clear braking preference of design by the world is a quality rotor that features grey cast iron rotor rings and a lightweight hub, and this is what the EBC units deliver, but with a difference:
1) 100% British-made in the EBC UK Headquarters, using European cast and machined rotor rings.
2) Lightweight billet alloy centre hubs attached to the rotor ring, with EBC trademark SD (Square-Drive) system bobbins.
3) All stainless-steel hardware.
4) A true fully floating design.
The SD system transforms the way two-piece rotors work and is one of the only true fully floating rotor systems on the market. There is a huge difference between a two-piece rotor and a floating rotor. Merely attaching the rotor to a centre hub of a lightweight material simply is not a floating rotor. The SD system explains this and sets EBC-designed two-piece rotors apart. Read more about the SD system by clicking here.
Carbon ceramic rotors’ main advantage is their light weight, and some may argue reduced unsprung weight, but our own tests and opinions show it is hard to beat the superb and controllable friction delivered by a quality organic or para aramid pad (all EBC pads are made this way), running against a decent quality grey iron rotor anulus is the standard for even the fastest street-based vehicles.

The EBC system offers choice for application. Pads for carbon ceramic systems can only be one grade, the original grade pad to work against a very specialised rotor surface. EBC offers a multitude of pad material choices, allowing you to specify a pad for your driving style, see the EBC pad selection chart by clicking here – all at a fraction of a ceramic setup, with performance differences very hard to separate. EBC Brakes’ range of pads will not work with the OE carbon ceramic rotors. For the full information on each of our different pad materials, click here.
