The Retford-based racer uses EBC Brakes components on his Yamaha R1

Retford-based Scott Stone is competing in No Limits Racing’s Premier 1000cc Championship in 2025 on his Yamaha R1, aiming to achieve solid results throughout the year.

Stone relies on EBC Brakes’ GPFAX (front axle) and Double-H Sintered (rear axle) brake pads to help giving him a fighting chance of achieving some of the fastest lap times on the grid.

Following a productive first round at Snetterton, Stone was back to take on Kent’s mighty Brands Hatch GP circuit, which resulted in PBs and class podiums, as you can read below in the team’s own words…

Test Day

“Was very happy with test day. Had good pace, although the track didn’t feel the grippiest and there was plenty of traffic to manage. We went about setting up the bike really well, to the point we made no changes in the last few sessions and came back happy to go into qualifying.”

Qualifying

“Set a new PB – 1:32.4, was P1 in class and 16th on grid (out of 33). We were expecting a little more as didn’t feel to be riding my best, but with new PB, what’s to moan about?!”

Race 1

“Got a good start and up to 13th by lap 2. Set another PB and got into a nice flow with all going to plan. Then on lap 5, I missed a gear, popped her into neutral going into Surtees – not ideal and it cost two places to Scott Halliday and Sam Middlemas. Tried to fight back and stay with them, but just didn’t have the pace to set up a pass. Red flag on last lap of 10.

“Enjoyed the race and was pleased at how we re-grouped after the mistake.

“Finished P2 in class, 11th overall and lapped consistently in 1:31s, with a PB of 1:31.6.”

Race 2

“Starting 13th was ideal and we had a plan. Made a fair start and passed Halliday into 12th before a red flag on lap 1.”

Restart – 9 Laps

“Decent start from 12th up to 10th, but was behind Middlemas and just could not get past him. Riding so close to him, we tensed up and started tiring (learning curve). First Halliday, then Wilfrid Turner came past and we had no answer for them. Was so disappointed, but that’s racing. Then another red flag on lap 7.

“Finished P3 in class and 12th overall. Best lap 1:31.7.”

Race 3

“Starting 14th and P3 in class, the elbows had to come out. Great start and made early ground up to 10th and P1 with clear track ahead. Happy days! Then, red flag on Lap 4. We got sent back to the paddock for a restart later in the afternoon.”

Restart – 7 Laps

“Had to start in original grid position so all hard work undone. Elbows out again and back into P1 so happy days again. This time though, Halliday was not letting me have it that easy and he passed into Surtees on Lap 2. Stayed with him for a few laps and running 1:31s, but then Wilfrid Turner closed the gap behind us. We decided not to run a new tyre in the last race and let’s just say it was past its best – a little lively on the rear!

“On lap 6, Turner was very close, but we felt if we could hit all our marks for the next two laps, we would be OK. Managed what we had and brought it home.

P2 in class, 7th overall and a mega new PB of 1:31.2.

“Championship points lead increased and some lovely tin pots for the mantlepiece. A great weekend’s racing. As always, learnt so much and will take the positives into the next one at Croft.

“Thank you to all the marshals, No Limits Racing, and our sponsors, it was a blast!”
