Louis Ruff is competing in the Classic Sports Car Club’s Morgan Challenge

Louis Ruff of Ruff Racing Team is currently competing in Class 2 of the Classic Sports Car Club’s Morgan Challenge race series, relying on EBC Brakes Racing’s RP-X™ front brake pads and Bluestuff rear brake pads in his Plus Four race car.

The Morgan Challenge has been running for 40 years, allowing all Morgan owners the chance to compete in one of the most successful single-marque championships in the UK.

The first round of the year took the roadshow to Derbyshire’s Donington Park Circuit, where Ruff secured multiple class wins and fastest laps to strongly set his intentions for the rest of the season.

You can read how it all panned out in his team’s own words below…

The 2025 Morgan Challenge roared into life at Donington Park recently, with anticipation high and the Ruff Racing Team eager to begin their championship campaign on the front foot. After months of preparation by the talented crew at Williams Automobiles, Louis was ready to take to the grid in the freshly prepped Morgan Plus Four.”

Qualifying – Finding the Limits

“Qualifying took place on a cool, overcast morning, with a packed grid featuring some of the most competitive drivers and cars in recent memory. For Louis, the session was all about learning the unique rhythm and nuances of Donington Park. Despite it being his first competitive outing at the circuit, Louis steadily improved lap by lap, feeling out the braking zones and testing the car’s cornering capabilities.

“While not able to extract the ultimate pace he hoped for, Louis managed a respectable 7th place on the grid — a solid foundation to build upon for the afternoon’s races.”

Race 1 – Fighting Through the Pack

“With the pressure of qualifying behind him, Louis focused on getting a clean launch off the line. He nailed the start, making up three positions by Turn 1, surging from 7th to 4th in a matter of seconds. The opening lap was chaotic, with the field jostling for position, and Louis momentarily dropped to 5th, but quickly regained composure and began pushing forward.

“Lap after lap, he kept the pressure on the cars ahead while remaining composed under attack from behind. By mid-race, he had climbed up to 3rd overall, simultaneously leading Class 2. His pace was electric, clocking the fastest lap in class as he maintained position through the latter stages of the race.

“Louis crossed the line in 3rd place overall and 1st in Class 2, earning maximum class points.”

Race 2 – Managing the Pressure

“Starting from 3rd on the grid for Race 2, Louis was again quick off the mark, launching into the lead by Turn 1. This time, with valuable data from Race 1 and the car setup slightly tweaked, he was able to build an early gap on his closest Class 2 rival, Andrew Thompson.

“However, a minor fuel leak discovered after Race 1 meant the team opted for a more conservative approach. Louis focused on consistency rather than outright pace, delivering lap after lap of clean, efficient driving. Despite intense pressure from faster Class 1 cars, he held firm in 3rd overall for most of the race.

“With a few laps remaining, he was eventually overtaken by a Class 1 competitor, wisely choosing not to fight too hard and risk his own race. He brought the car home in 4th overall, again taking the Class 2 win and adding more valuable championship points to his tally.”

Summary – Momentum Secured

“With two Class 2 victories, a fastest lap, and 22 championship points, the Ruff Racing Team couldn’t have asked for a better start. Louis leaves Donington Park with growing confidence, a firm lead in class, and clear signals that he’s a strong title contender.

The focus now shifts to Cadwell Park, where the team at Williams Automobiles will be installing new EBC Brakes Racing pads and performing a fluid service using Motul products. With the car in peak condition and Louis feeling ever more comfortable behind the wheel, Round 2 promises to be another exciting chapter in this season’s campaign…”
