Justin Roberts drove his Apollo Big Brake Kit-fitted EP3 Honda alongside Mike Heath

In 2021, Justin Roberts secured an impressive overall Class C win in the MSVT Trackday Championship as well as finishing second overall in that year’s standings.

Roberts entrusted an EBC Brakes Racing Apollo Big Brake Kit back then, which he still uses to this day as he enters various rounds of the series again this year.

The latest round took the series to Norfolk’s Snetterton Circuit, where Roberts and second driver Mike Heath enjoyed some thrills and spills over the scorching weekend, as you can read below in the team’s own words…

“Round 3 of the Trackday Championship from Snetterton last weekend saw Justin Roberts with his stunning EBC-backed Honda Civic Type R entering the Norfolk event, with three-times XR Challenge champion, Mike Heath, sharing the 45-minute blast in the blistering heat.

“Qualifying didn’t go as planned, probably due to the air temperature – several Hondas didn’t seem to perform in the extra-hot conditions and were several seconds a lap down on previous events.

“A few tweaks to the setup, most importantly holes drilled into the PVC windows and air deflectors installed as the in-car temperature was reaching over 50 degrees, and a brand-new set of EBC RPX™ front pads was an absolute must.

“Heath started the race in 9th and moved into 7th place by the end of his 20-minute stint. The two-minute mandatory pit stop saw Roberts enter the fray, who struggled with obvious tyre temperature. The chequered flag dropped and the lads brought the Civic home in a respectable 6th place.”

“Day 2, and major setup changes were applied to the car on the Saturday evening, to help with the masses of understeer the pair were stuffing with.

“Qualifying was a bit of a rush but instantly the car was so much better. But yet again, the Civic really seemed to suffer in the blistering heat, resulting in a 12th-place qualification.

“Mike again started the race and found himself in 8th place after three laps and battling with another EBC-backed team (Semprini Racing) in their Honda Civic.

“Unfortunately, after several hot laps, the car came to a halt due to a damaged flywheel. A massive blow to the pair as the car just seemed to get better each lap.

“With three weeks to repair the car before the Brands Hatch GP meeting, Justin said “It would be such a shame to miss the next round as we’ve never raced the GP format at Brands and it’s one of the UK circuits I’ve never been round, but I’m sure the lads at Motion Motorsport will get it ready in time for us. So I’m certain we’ll be there.”
