EBC Brakes sponsors the British Army Motorcycle Road Race Team (AMRRT)

The British Army Motorcycle Road Race Team (AMRRT) is an exclusive racing club for all Army, RAF and Navy personnel.

Formed in 2010, the AMRRT is one of the largest teams in the British Army Motorsports Association. It encompasses two road tacing disciplines – sprints and endurance – with 21 full-time and reserve riders, plus support crew for 2026.

As well as its own dedicated championship – the Inter Services Road Race Championship – AMRRT also supports entrants to other national series, not least the BSB, where three riders will be competing throughout the year.

WO2 Watts will return to the highly contested National Superstock 1000 category, whilst Sgt Thomas and LCpl Large-Taylor will compete in the ultra-competitive SuperSport 600 Cup onboard a Triumph 765 and Yamaha R9 respectively.

All three will be using EBC Brakes Racing’s GPFAX pads and X/XC discs to help them achieve the best results across the season.

We caught up with the team off the back of the official BSB testing day at Derbyshire’s Donington Park. You can hear how it went in their own words below…

“WO1 Gav Watts and SSgt Stephen Thomas continued their preparations for the upcoming British Superbike (BSB) season by attending the Official BSB Test at Donington Park on 3–4 April. Cold temperatures and strong winds made for challenging running throughout the two days.”

“Watts, who will be competing in his second season in the National Superstock 1000 class aboard his Honda Fireblade, used the test to focus on development rather than outright lap time. Reflecting on the event, he said: “The conditions have been extremely challenging due to the cold temperatures and very high winds. We didn’t concentrate on an outright fast lap, instead focusing on understanding the new data software and experimenting with different electronic and geometry setups. Overall, I’m pleased with the two days and now look forward to the second test at Oulton Park in a few weeks’ time.”

“Thomas, who will contest the ultra‑competitive Supersport Cup in 2026 on his Triumph 765RS, echoed the importance of the test. After 5–6 months off the bike, the focus was on rebuilding confidence and ensuring the package was working correctly. He commented: “This test was important to get reacquainted with the team and the bike. Lap times were down across all classes due to the wind and low temperatures, but it was good to get some solid laps in alongside the riders I’ll be racing against this year.”
