Justin Roberts and Mike Heath won the Oulton Park rounds of both the MSVT Trackday Championship and Trackday Trophy

Justin Roberts and Mike Heath are sharing the seat of their EP3 Honda Civic Type R race car this year in the MSVT Trackday Championship. In 2021, Roberts secured his class win in the series for that year.

The duo has been running an EBC Brakes Racing Apollo Big Brake Kit for some time now, which was recently upgraded with the firm’s SR-11™ sintered endurance race pads in the previous round at Brands Hatch.

The next race on the calendar was at Cheshire’s Oulton Park, where the team were delighted to clinch two outright victories across the weekend.

You can read more about how the weekend unfolded in the team’s own words below.

“After some positive testing on the Friday afternoon before Saturday’s penultimate rounds of MSVR Trackday Championship and Trackday Trophy at Oulton Park, Justin Roberts and Mike Heath were upbeat about the day ahead. Also, with it being their home circuit, the pair were extremely confident that a podium was reachable.

“Qualifying for both 45-minute races went as well as expected, seeing them on the front row for each race – sitting in P2 was quite impressive, and extremely satisfying.”

Race 1 – Trackday Championship

“Race 1 would be the Trackday Championship. Heath would start the race lined up against a Lotus Elise on pole position. Lights out and the Lotus on the second row went ahead of Heath into Turn 1, but Mike’s Oulton Park experience saw him quickly dive underneath into the lead at the Shell Oils Hairpin on Lap 1.

“Heath put in some extremely fast times in the quest to stay ahead of the chasing pack and managed to get a four-second lead after five laps, but the poor starting pole sitter that dropped several positions was on a charge, lapping three seconds quicker and passing the team’s EBC Brakes Racing-backed Civic Type R on Lap 9.

“Heath pitted on Lap 11 to pass the car over to Roberts in 2nd position. A very smooth pit stop saw the duo back into the overall lead after all the stops. The Lotus picked up a penalty for an infringement, so Roberts led the final eight laps to take the Team KAR’s first outright victory of the season.”

Race 2 – Trackday Trophy

“Again, Heath started on the front row alongside an extremely fast starting Caterham 7, that led up to the Shell Oils Hairpin where Heath yet again got ahead. Several laps followed with the Caterham trying its best to pass the experienced three-times XR Challenge champion.

“Mike pitted on Lap 12 to hand over to Justin in the lead. Roberts joined the fray with four seconds to the chasing BMW 328 in second. With lots of slower-classed cars to pass, Roberts had to drive super aggressively to pass the back markers as quick as possible without stalling his lap times. He impressively pulled out a 19-second lead to take the chequered flag for the second time in as many races. A truly remarkable day for both drivers and team members.”
